Tuning is Never Completed

How long does it take to tune a bike? How long is a piece of string?

What I mean here is that when tuning a bike it is never perfect or anywhere near perfect when finished.

A bit like suspension, no matter how good it is tuned, it can always be made better.

All you can do is improve the tune, never complete it. Doesnt matter how "perfect" your custom map is, it can always be improved.

Generally speaking we will spend 3-4 hours tuning a single map. That will normally get it pretty good, normally fix or alleviate any particular problems you may have been having.

if you want individual fuel maps done per cylinder, individual ignition maps, then you had better have deep pockets and long arms

Time wise? we wont know until we do it, but you could be looking at 10 + hrs

I know there are people out there who say they can do a custom map in an hour or two, I can do one in 30 minutes if you like, does that mean I am better than them? doubt it.

The quality of a custom map is directly related to the time spent doing it. ie a cheap map is exactly that.

After tuning, the test is when you ride the bike. Not me going for a squirt down the road, I wouldnt have a clue what your bike should go like. You riding the bike everyday will have a much better idea of whether or not its any better or worse. And after a week, a month, a year, coming back and saying, "its a bit funny here" or it does this occaisionally. We can then get into it, maybe spend an hour or so finetuning those areas. And then away you go and ride it. The factories put 1000's of manhours into testing and tuning, so expecting your local dyno guy to work miracles in a couple of hours is a non starter.
